In seminars, we often get asked, "How can I be a more effective in freestyle sparring? I can do techniques in static situations, or when 'running the line', but when I freestyle, the Kenpo goes out the window, and I look like any other martial art stylist."
The answer to those remarks are simply that Kenpo is not the problem - training methods are. Without a proper breakdown in the methodology and training of sparring, the spontaneous application of Kenpo is difficult under high stress. Being able to perform properly under survival stress situations is what Ed Parker called 'extemporanous' applications.
